Auggies fall to Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bridget Bednar (FY, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team in an 83-49 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Gusties got out to a quick start scoring on five of their first six possessions, and went on to shoot 60.6 percent from the floor in the frame. Gustavus took a 43-20 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The hot-shooting night continued for the Gusties in the second half as they went on to claim the 83-49 victory.
• Bednar led the Auggies with an 11-point, 7-rebound effort. She connected on 5-of-6 from the field and added a pair of assists and a blocked shot.
• Abbey Luger (SR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) also finished in double-digits for the Auggies, posting an 11-point, four assist effort.
• Laykn Bauer (SO, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North HS) led the Augsburg defense with a game- and season-high five steals.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the field and connected on 10-of-14 from the free throw line.


FOR THE FOES
• The Gusties finished with three players in double figures led by Hannah Howard, who claimed a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double.
• For the game, Gustavus shot 55.7 percent from the field, claimed a 44-24 advantage on the boards and outscored the Auggies 44-24 in points in the paint.

• Augsburg and Gustavus both return to action on Saturday (1/10) -- the Auggies host Bethel University in a men's and women's double-header, while Gustavus hosts Concordia College. Women's action begins at 1 p.m., while the men tip-off at 3 p.m.
