Auggies fall to Tommies in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College fell 4-1 to a tough University of St. Thomas team in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field. With the loss, the Auggies were mathematically eliminated from the MIAC postseason playoffs, ending its 2015 campaign.

RECORDS: Augsburg 6-10-2 overall (3-6-1 MIAC), St. Thomas 10-6-1 overall (5-4-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg surrendered the first three goals of the game before Ben Henry (JR, Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln HS) was able to convert on a pass from Barinedum Kordah (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS), scoring on a quick shot to the near corner.
• Augsburg recorded 15 shots, 4 on-goal, while the Tommies put up 18 shots, 8 on goal. Each team had two corner kicks on the night.
• Nick Lenertz (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) had four saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Shae Bottum scored two goals for the Tommies. He scored on an unassisted mark at the 21:17 mark of the first half and picked up his second goal of the night at the 73:17 mark on an assist by Jamie Collins.
• Matt Bouche and Pierce Erickson scored the other goals for St. Thomas.
• Grant Larson played the entire game in goal for the Tommies to pick up the victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Six Augsburg senior student-athletes, Hussein Abdullahi (Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Sam Connor (Becket, Mass./Williston Northampton School), Charlie Leslie (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), Ngochinyan Ollar (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), Mohamed Sankoh (Shoreview, Minn./Como Park HS) and Aaron Wylie (Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln HS) all played their final match in an Auggie uniform. 
• Head Coach Greg Holker said of his senior class: "This group has been catalysts in the first stage of our rebuilding process. They've been exemplary leaders and have always put the program ahead of themselves. There is no question the program is better off than it was a year ago -- and much to their credit."


UP NEXT
• Augsburg finishes its 2014-15 season with an overall record of 6-10-2 and 3-4-1 in MIAC play.
• St. Thomas will play in the MIAC quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
