Auggies score 2-1 win over Wildcats

BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Valerie Whichello (FY, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored both Augsburg College goals on Friday evening, lifting the Auggies to a 2-1 win over St. Catherine University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game at Drake Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless first period, Whichello scored for the Auggies at the 13:39 mark of the second period, assisted by Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS).
• Whichello scored her second goal at the 12:58 mark of the third period, assisted by Claire Cripps (SR, Hutchinson, Minn.)
• Augsburg claimed a 33-21 shots-on-goal advantage over St. Catherine, including a 25-14 margin in the final two periods.
• Whichello, Lindgren and Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had four shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Cripps, Taral Clayton (SO, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) and Brenna Nakonechny (SR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) had three shots each.
• Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) picked up the victory for the Auggies in goal, making 20 saves.


FOR THE FOES
• Laken Muller scored the lone goal of the game for St. Catherine at the 14:06 mark of the third period, assisted by Karly Nelson and Mallory Ryan.
• Kristen Pechacek had 31 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
