Balanced offensive attack leads Auggies past Simpson

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team finished with five players in double figures as the Auggies posted an 80-74 victory over Simpson College in nonconference action on Friday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg finished with five players in double figures, led by Joe Zangel (SR, Richfield, Minn./St. Louis Park HS), who posted his first career double-double, finishing with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Zangel was 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Collin Olmscheid (SO, Buffalo, Minn.), who scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while adding eight rebounds and an assist.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Brett Rasmussen (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and Ryan Gilmer (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), who finished with 13 points apiece. Ben Glover (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Transitions HS) added 12 points and five rebounds in his Auggie debut.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the floor, while holding Simpson to 40.9 percent (27-of-66) of its field-goal attempts.
• Augsburg claimed an impressive 44-27 advantage on the boards.

FOR THE FOES
• Simpson finished with three players in double figures, led by Ryan Skaar, who posted with a game-high 19 points.
• Dillion Gretzky led the Storm with a team-high nine rebounds, while adding four points.
• Simpson claimed a 20-10 advantage in the turnover battle.

• The victory marks the eighth consecutive season that Augsburg has won its season opener.
