Auggies edged 3-2 by Pipers

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Corbin Chapman (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) scored both Augsburg College goals to give the Auggies a 2-0 lead, but host Hamline University scored the final three goals in rallying for a 3-2 win in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday evening at Oscar Johnson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Chapman scored the first two goals of the game. His first goal came at the 17:38 mark of the first period, assisted by Evan Hesse (FY, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) and Dylan Meier (SO, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS). Meier also assisted on Chapman's second goal, coming at the 1:18 mark of the second period.
• Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 25-14 margin in the game, including a 12-2 advantage in the second period.
Fredrik Melander (SO, Uppsala, Sweden/Trinity-Pawling Prep (N.Y.) HS) had 22 saves in goal for Augsburg.
• Chapman's three shots on-goal led the Auggies, while Nate Flynn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) and Brett Bukowski (FY, Superior, Wis.) had two shots each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With three games remaining in the MIAC regular season, Augsburg is now in a tie for fifth place with 21 points, with Hamline vaulting ahead of the Auggies to fourth place with 22 points. The top five teams qualify for the MIAC postseason playoffs.

• Chapman's two-goal game is the first of his 40-game collegiate career, and his 10th career multi-point game. He has 29 career points (10 goals, 19 assists).
• Meier's two-assist effort is his second this season and third multi-point game this season. In 46 career games, he has 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists).


FOR THE FOES
• Josh Gaughan scored an unassisted goal at the 8:58 mark of the second period to put the Pipers on the scoreboard.
• The Pipers scored two goals in a 1:53 span overlapping the second intermission; Brandon Zurn scored a power-play goal from Jonny Gehrt and Charlie Adams with 30 seconds to go in the second period, and Jaycob McCombs scored from Kevin Novakovich 1:23 into the third period for the eventual game-winning goal.
• John Sellie-Hanson had 12 saves in goal for Hamline.
