Augsburg falls 72-61 to SJU

MINNEAPOLIS -- Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) led Augsburg College in a 72-61 loss to Saint John's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hines led the Auggies with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, while adding five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
• Ryan Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn/Jefferson HS) finished 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, while adding four rebounds and assist and a steal.
• Joey Sonnenfeld (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, recording 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
• Harry Sonie (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) led the Auggie defense with three steals, while adding eight points and three rebounds.
• The Auggies tied their second-best shooting
performance of the season from 3-point range, connecting on 50.0 percent (9-of-18) from beyond the arc.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field, while the Johnnies connected on 54.0 percent (27-of-50) from the floor.

• The teams recorded an identical 30 rebounds apiece.
• Augsburg outscored Saint John's 21-12 in second chance points but was outscored 32-24 in points in the paint.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Augsburg seniors Hines, Carter Cross (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and Dogukan Kuzucan (SR, Istanbul, Turkey/Lincoln Park (Ill.) HS) played their final home game in an Auggie uniform. 
• Coach Aaron Griess commented, "This group of individuals will graduate from Augsburg with memories, friendships and experiences which will last a lifetime. FOR THE FOES
• Saint John's finished with three players in double figures, led by Joe Risinger, who finished with a game-high 27 points, while adding six rebounds and five assists.
