Augsburg closes season with 6-1 victory over St. Olaf

MINNEAPOLIS -- Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D./Williston HS) scored two goals, leading Augsburg College to a 6-1 triumph over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After giving up the first goal of the game, the Auggies came back and scored six straight to claim the victory.
• Hennessy scored the first and last goals for the Auggies, scoring at the 15:53 mark of the first period on an unassisted tally, and at the 11:52 mark of the third period on an assist by Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS).
• Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) also had a big afternoon for the Auggies, scoring a power play goal at the 5:57 mark of the third period and picking up assists on back-to-back goals from Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) at the 16:15 mark of the first and Claire Cripps (JR, Hutchinson, Minn.) at the 17:47 mark of the second period.
• Kloncz picked up the remaining goal for the Auggies, scoring at the 5:57 mark of the third period on assists by Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Brenna Nakonechny (JR, Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS).
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 44-31 margin in the game -- the 44 shots were a season-high for the Auggies, and the third straight game in which Augsburg has recorded 40-plus shots on-goal.
Brianna Schulz (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 30 saves in goal for the Auggies. Schulz finishes her Auggie career with 2,052 career saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg finished the season in sixth place in the MIAC standings with 18 league points, just one shy of Bethel and the MIAC playoffs.
• The seven MIAC victories are the most for the Auggies since the 2005-06 season when the Auggies finished 7-8-3 in MIAC play.

• The game was the final contest for Augsburg seniors -- Hennessy, Kendall Christian (SR, Moorhead, Minn.), Ellie Schaaf (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) and Brianna Schulz (SR, Prior Lake, Minn.).

FOR THE FOES
• Sam Ubl had 38 saves in goal for St. Olaf.
• Hannah Forliti scored the lone goal for the Oles, a short handed tally at the 10:27 mark of the first period on an assist from Jane Vezina.
