Auggies' season ends with 4-3 loss to Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS -- Zach Dick (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) had a goal and assist for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 4-3 decision to Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey postseason playoff game on Thursday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• No. 4-seed Augsburg took a 2-1 lead after two periods, as Dick scored from Daniel Hildebrandt (SR, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS) and Evan Hesse (FY, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) at the 7:58 mark, and Corbin Chapman (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) scored from Dylan Meier (SO, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and Drew Allen (JR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) at the 19:15 mark.
• Hamline scored three straight goals in the third period to take a 4-2 lead, but Augsburg cut the lead to its final margin at the 19:15 mark, as Ben McClellan (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored an extra-attacker goal from Dick.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 46-34 margin in the game, including a 23-12 advantage in the third period. 
• John Bretzman (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) had 30 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Nate Flynn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) and Eli May (FY, Eagan, Minn.) had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Chapman and Meier had five shots.

• Charlie Adams scored two third-period goals, adding an assist for a three-point night. Adams scored from Brandon Zurn at the 11:01 mark, and scored an empty-net goal from Zurn and Joe Rubbelke at the 18:47 mark.
• Zurn scored from Adams and Brandon Reinholz at the 8:56 mark of the third period.
• Chad Hennum opened the scoring for the Pipers with a power-play goal from Jaycob McCombs and Kevin Novakovich at the 5:55 mark of the second period.
• John Sellie-Hanson had 43 saves in goal for Hamline.
• No. 5-seed Hamline advances to face No. 1-seed St. Thomas in the MIAC playoff semifinals on Saturday (2/28) at 7 p.m. at the UST Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
