Auggie women's soccer opens with 8-0 win

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- With 12 different players figuring in the scoring and 24 players seeing game action, the Augsburg College women's soccer team opened its 2015 campaign with an 8-0 triumph at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in a nonconference contest on Tuesday evening. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a big lead, scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes of play and leading 6-0 at halftime. Augsburg outshot Northwestern by a 38-4 margin in the game -- 18-3 in the first half and 20-1 in the second half.
Jane Koch (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) scored her first two collegiate goals in the opening 20 minutes, a goal at the 12:59 mark and another at the 19:38 mark.
• Three other Auggies scored their first collegiate goals -- Brigette Jira (FY, Fort Atkinson, Wis.), Andrea Ayala (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Anne Haugan (FY, Malvik, Norway/Malvik Videregaende Skole).
Marta Anderson (JR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had a goal and two assists, while Ashley Waalen (JR, Amery, Wis.) and Molly Lamovec (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) had a goal and assist each.
Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) had two assists in the game, with Carter Denison (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Anna Addamo (JR, Madison, Wis./Edgewood HS), Morgan Kenny (JR, Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield Central HS) and Lucy Bukowski (SR, Two Harbors, Minn.) also adding assists.
• Bukowski started in goal and had three saves in the first half, with Jessy Wiskofske (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) playing in her first collegiate game in goal in the second half.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The win was Augsburg's 10th straight shutout victory over Northwestern-St. Paul, dating to the 2005 season. Augsburg has outscored Northwestern 41-0 in the 10-game span. Augsburg is now 11-0 in the all-time series against the Eagles, dating to the 2004 season, with a 45-2 scoring advantage.
• With her two assists, Fitzgerald now has 65 career points (24 goals, 15 assists), ranking sixth in school history in career points, sixth in goals and 13th in assists.


FOR THE FOES
• Asia Owens and Megan Larsen had two shots each for the Eagles.
• Josie Monson had 10 saves in goal in 61 minutes, while Samantha Dewey had seven saves in 29 minutes of relief.
