Auggies improve to 6-0-0 with 3-1 win over Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored two goals and added an assist, keeping her Augsburg College women's soccer team unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Carleton College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Fitzgerald scored two second-half goals, the first assisted by Marta Anderson (JR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) and the second assisted by Jane Koch (FY, Burnsville, Minn.), to give the Auggies the final margin of victory. Her first goal came on a blast to the top right corner of the net off a solid feed by Anderson at the 55:30 mark, and the second came in front following a right-side pass through the box by Koch at the 73:24 mark
• Augsburg struck first at the 26:19 mark of play, as Rayni Pemble (SO, Anoka, Minn.) scored in front following a corner kick, with Fitzgerald and Anderson credited with assists.
• Augsburg outshot Carleton by a 13-4 margin, including an 8-1 advantage in the second half. Augsburg also had eight corner kicks to Carleton's two.
• Fitzgerald had six shots in the game, while Pemble, Ashley Waalen (JR, Amery, Wis.) and Morgan Kenny (JR, Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield Central HS) had two shots each.
• Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) picked up the win in goal with one save.

• Augsburg, ranked No. 19 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III national rankings and No. 2 in the North Region poll, saw its streak of not allowing a goal stopped at 477:16 to start the season, a span including five straight shutouts to open the campaign.
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 30-1 margin this season, a total 16 more than any other Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival in overall statistics so far this season.
• Augsburg has now outshot its opponents by a 161-30 margin this season, including a 90-18 advantage in shots on-goal. The Auggies also have recorded 50 corner kicks to their opponents' 10.
• Anderson and Fitzgerald are now tied for the MIAC's lead in overall points with 17 each. FOR THE FOES
• Ava Lewis ended the Augsburg opponent scoreless streak 57 seconds after Pemble's goal, with a blast from the right end line from 15 yards away at the 27:16 mark. Lewis had two of Carleton's four shots in the game.
• Mikayla Coulombe had four saves in goal for the Knights.
