Auggies post second straight MIAC victory with win over Carleton

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and and one of its best rebounding performances of the season to earn a 57-31 victory over Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg built a 10-point lead after the first quarter and was able to push the lead to a 29-12 advantage at half-time. The Auggies led by as many 34 points in the second half and cruised on to the MIAC victory over the cold-shooting Knights.
• The win marks the 10th consecutive victory for Augsburg over the Knights, dating back to the 2010 season.
• 13 different Auggies saw action in the contest and nine factored into the scoring.
• Hannah Steinhaus (SO, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS), Maria Loughlin (SR, Rogers, Minn.) and Bridget Bednar (SO, Pierz, Minn.) led the Auggies offensively with nine points apiece. Loughlin added a team-high four steals, while Steinhaus posted six rebounds and a steal.
• Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) led Augsburg on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds while adding six points and a pair of assists.
• Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) recorded a career-high eight assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 35.5 percent (24-of-68) from the floor, while holding Carleton to 25.0 percent (11-of-4) shooting. Augsburg claimed a 51-31 advantage on the boards -- including a season-best 25 offensive rebounds.
• The Auggies claimed a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint, a 19-2 advantage in points off turnovers and a 16-2 advantage in second-chance points.


FOR THE FOES
• Carleton was led offensively by Michele Arima, who finished with eight points, while adding four steals.
• Kayla Frank led the Knights on the boards, posting seven rebounds, while adding three assists.
