Goal in 80th minute gives Auggies 2-1 win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Peyton Boich (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 80th minute, lifting the Augsburg College men's soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, St. Olaf 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-9-2 overall (3-4-2 MIAC), St. Olaf 6-4-6 overall (3-2-4 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Boich scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a finish off a brilliant cross-box feed from the right side by Barinedum Kordah (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS), as Boich deposited the ball into the net at the 79:28 mark. Augsburg was then able to control possession for the final 10 minutes of play to pick up the important win.
• The Auggies scored their first goal of the game at the 21:56 mark, as Aidan Sim-Campos (SO, St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) put a one-timer home on the right side off a corner kick by Luke Falk (SO, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS).
• Clark Page (SO, Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had a strong effort in goal for the Auggies, collecting seven saves, including several diving stops, to secure his second collegiate victory.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 20-10 margin, including a 13-4 advantage in the second half. Bobby Kohl (JR, Shorewood, Wis.) had six shots, while Boich had five shots and Kordah had three.

FOR THE FOES
• Jon Lenz scored for St. Olaf in the 49th minute, finishing a cross-box feed by Henrik Kowalkowski. Aaron Miller also assisted on the goal.
• Ben Braman had three saves in goal for St. Olaf.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER:
• "Our guys deserve to be playing for something on the last day. Not every bounce goes your way in life, and we fully understand and embrace that. It's up to us to make our luck, it's up to us to overcome obstacles -- whatever they might be. It's our choice to play the way we do. We fully understand the risks with building up from the back and playing out of tight spaces, but we believe so deeply in it and know that when we get it right, it's as internally rewarding and blissful as it is for those who enjoy watching it.
• "What can you say about Peyton? He's as sick as a dog, yet he scores the game-winner and puts in another tremendous effort starting in place of Lionel Vang. He and Bobby are now tied for fifth in the league in points recorded with 10. He's a first year. Lionel's a first year. Taylor Sullivan is a first year. Ten other players for us tonight are sophomores -- six of them started the game. When you are young, it takes time to get on the same page and we are getting there now.
• "Aidan Sim-Campos scored on a perfectly placed corner kick from Luke -- so fun for all of us because we know that so far this season when we score first we are 6-0 with 21 goals scored in those games."
• "Ben Henry single-handedly killed the game when he dropped into midfield and dominated the air for the last eight minutes. He was outstanding. Both T.J. Johnson and Luke got better as the game wore on, and really tightened it up for us from the center back position. After St. Olaf scored on the counter-attack, they changed their location slightly and took away any more chances for the Oles to score.
• "Now we have to try and slay the dragon. St. Thomas has been unbeatable this year -- just incredible. They are a talented team led by three fifth-year seniors across the back. They have experience, quality, can score at any moment, and they have Mark Heydt, who leads the league in points from left back. He's deadly on free kicks, and can get forward to threaten in the run of play. They really are fun to watch -- a balanced MIAC champion. For us, it's an opportunity. Not only can we potentially extend our season, but we can measure ourselves against the very best the league has to offer."
