Auggies edged 2-1 by MIAC champion Tommies

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Marta Anderson (SR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) tied the game for Augsburg College with a goal in the 68th minute, but the University of St. Thomas scored 11 minutes later to break the tie and claim a 2-1 win in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 1-0 after a goal in the final minute of the first half, Augsburg tied the game at the 67:40 mark, when Anderson scored her fourth goal of the season, taking a pass from Ashley St. Aubin (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) and putting it in the front right of the goal.
• Augsburg claimed a 15-8 advantage in shots in the game, including a 7-2 edge in the second half, but St. Thomas scored goals in the 45th and 79th minutes to take the win, finishing its MIAC regular-season championship season.
• St. Aubin closed the regular season leading the  MIAC's overall statistics in both goals (14) and total points (34). marking the third straight season that an Auggie has led the MIAC in both categories.
• St. Aubin had five shots in the game, while Anderson had three shots.
• Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had four saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Emma Theis scored from Mary Ennis at the 44:20 mark for the Tommies, and Mallory DeBoom put the Tommies in front with a goal at the 78:14 mark, assisted by Brielle Bierman.
• Tarryn Theilig had four saves in goal for St. Thomas.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg has secured a home game in the six-team postseason playoffs and will be the No. 3 seed based on tiebreaker criteria with Bethel, hosting Hamline in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday (11/1) at 2 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
• St. Thomas will host the winner of the Gustavus-at-St. Catherine quarterfinal game in a semifinal contest on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
