Auggies score 8th shutout of year, 2-0 over Gustavus

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ashley St. Aubin (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) and Carter Denison (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) scored goals, and the Augsburg College women's soccer team held firm for its eighth shutout of the season, as the Auggies blanked Gustavus Adolphus College 2-0 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held command of the momentum throughout the contest, outshooting Gustavus by a 18-10 margin, including a 10-4 advantage in the first half.
• Augsburg's defensive backfield of Emily Gregg (SR, River Falls, Wis.), Ashley Waalen (SR, Amery, Wis.), Hannah Whitington (SR, Eagle Lake, Minn./Mankato East HS) Jada Olson (FY, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Kate Johnston (SO, Missoula, Mont./Hellgate HS) held firm, limiting Gustavus to just two shots on-goal in the game. Gregg, Waalen and Whitington played the full 90 minutes on defense.
• Goalkeepers Marissa Guillou (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Emily Chapman (FY, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) combined for Augsburg's eighth shutout of the season, with each making a save -- Guillou in the first half and Chapman in the second half. Augsburg's eight shutouts are tied for most among MIAC teams in overall statistics.
• St. Aubin scored her MIAC-leading 10th goal of the season in the 27th minute, assisted by Ciara Gregory (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS). St. Aubin sprinted up the middle, slid the ball to Gregory on the right side, then scored on a rebound off a shot by Gregory.
• Denison scored in the 50th minute, also assisted by Gregory. Denison put home a solid feed from the right side by Gregory for her fourth goal of the year.
• St. Aubin had six shots in the game, while Denison and Marta Anderson (SR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had three shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Ashley Becker had eight saves in goal for Gustavus.
• Jana Elliott, Chase Miller and Emily Skogseth had two shots each for the Gusties.
