4-goal 3rd period gives Tommies win over Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College held a 2-1 lead after two periods, but a four-goal third period gave the University of St. Thomas a 5-2 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Darby Lindgren (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored a goal and added an assist for the Auggies, opening the game with a goal from Taral Clayton (SO, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) at the 11:22 mark of the first period.
• Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored her 10th goal of the season, a power-play marker from Lindgren, at the 17:40 mark of the second period.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 36-18 margin in the game, including a 12-2 margin in the third period. Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) recorded 31 saves in goal for the Auggies.
• Fuechtmann had eight shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Ashley Kloncz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and Callen Naasz (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had two shots each.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With the loss, Augsburg now sits in fourth place in the MIAC standings with 20 points, behind St. Thomas' 23 and Concordia and Bethel, which both have 22 points. Augsburg is two points ahead of fifth-place Saint Mary's (18) and three points ahead of sixth-place Gustavus (17).


FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas jumped ahead with two goals in a 46-second span in the third period during a 5-on-3 power play. Megan Juricko scored an unassisted goal at the 10:36 mark, and Leah Schwartzman scored from Kathryn Larson and Juricko at the 11:22 mark.
• Rachel Friberg and Becca Zarembinski wrapped up the scoring for the Tommies with goals at the 17:00 and 19:46 mark, respectively.
• Allie Borgstrom scored the Tommies' first goal, a marker form Juricko 40 seconds into the second period.

• Mackenzie Torpy had 16 saves in goal for St. Thomas.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg faces Saint Benedict in the final series of the regular season next weekend. Next Friday's (2/19) game is at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Center in St. Cloud, Minn., and next Saturday's (2/20) game is at 4 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
• St. Thomas closes the regular season with a series against St. Olaf next weekend.
