Augsburg outscores foes 39-4 in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Outscoring their opponents by a 39-4 margin, the Augsburg College baseball team completed a sweep of its games on Monday at the Tucson Invitational, topping Sul Ross State (Texas) 20-2 and Wisconsin-Superior 19-2. Both games were shortened to seven innings by a 10-run rule.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ten different Auggies had hits and 11 different Auggies scored runs in the pair of wins on Monday. Leading the way was Bryce Pruszinske (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS), who went 6-for-9 in the pair of games with five runs scored, two doubles and five RBI.
• Rhett Hebig (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) went 5-for-9 with four runs scored, a triple and four RBI.
• Josh Marlowe (JR, North St. Paul, Minn.) went 4-for-6 with five runs scored, a double, triple and five RBI, and Billy Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis.) went 4-for-9 with seven runs scored, two doubles and six RBI.


HIGHLIGHTS VS. SUL ROSS STATE
• Augsburg used a nine-run first inning and 11-run third inning to take the early advantage in the contest. Augsburg sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning, and sent 15 batters to the plate in the third inning.
• Augsburg had 13 hits in the game and took advantage of five Sul Ross errors. Seven of the 20 runs charged to Sul Ross pitchers were unearned.
• Pruszinske went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Billy Brookshaw, Mike Brookshaw (FY, Prescott, Wis.), Marlowe, Hebig and Andy Julkowski (SR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) had two hits each. Mike Brookshaw hit a double and triple in the game, and Julkowski and Hebig each hit triples. Julkowski drove in four runs, while Marlowe and Hebig drove in three runs each.
• Jordan Brandt (JR, Eagan, Minn.) pitched a complete-game victory, striking out seven while walking none and allowing eight hits in seven innings of work.


HIGHLIGHTS VS. WISCONSIN-SUPERIOR
• Augsburg scored in all but one inning in the seven-inning contest, including a nine-run fourth inning, when the Auggies sent 13 batters to the plate.
• Pruszinske went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs scored and two doubles, while Hebig went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
• Brandon Schmahl (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Billy Brookshaw hit two doubles, driving in four runs while scoring three.
• Eric Olheiser (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) hit two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Marlowe had a double and triple, driving in two runs and scoring three. 
• Three Auggie pitchers threw in the game. Jamie Kaye (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) started and struck out three while walking two in three innings of work, with Charles Linder (FY, Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) throwing three innings of relief to score the win. Ryan Masui (FY, Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka HS) struck out two of the four batters he faced in the seventh inning.


FOR THE FOES
• Wesley Moss went 3-for-4 for Sul Ross, hitting a double and triple. Ryan Almager had two hits, including a double.
• Seth Wage had three hits for Wisconsin-Superior, with Matthew Boyde adding two hits.

• Augsburg faces Southern Vermont in a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday (3/16) in Tucson.
