Auggies split doubleheader with Concordia-Wisconsin

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Augsburg College baseball team continued its "hit parade" at the Tucson Invitational, as the Auggies pounded out 24 hits, including 11 extra-base hits, in a doubleheader split with Concordia University-Wisconsin on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Josh Marlowe (JR, North St. Paul, Minn.), who hit for the cycle in the Auggies' win over Southern Vermont on Wednesday, continued his hot hitting streak with a 5-for-7 performance, including two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and three driven in, in the doubleheader. He went 4-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the first game, and had a double and scored a run in the second game. On the season, Marlowe is leading the Auggies with a .514 (19-of-37) average with 17 RBI, 13 runs scored, a .946 slugging percentage and .558 on-base percentage.
• Bryce Pruszinske (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) went 4-for-6 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored in the doubleheader, and Eric Olheiser (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Tartan HS) went 4-for-8) with a double, triple, two runs scored and an RBI.
• In its eight games so far in Arizona, Augsburg is hitting .366 (96-of-262) with 32 extra-base hits (16 doubles, 12 triples, four home runs). Augsburg has outscored its foes by an 86-47 margin in its 5-3 trip so far.


GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg scored four runs in the second inning to jump ahead of the Falcons. Marlowe and Tyler "Jonesy" Buescher (JR, Prior Lake, Minn.) hit solo home runs, Andy Julkowski (SR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) hit a run-scoring triple and Mike Brookshaw (FY, Prescott, Wis.) drove in a run on a groundout.
• Pruszinske hit a run-scoring triple in the third inning, and three more runs came across in the fourth inning, as Brandon Schmahl (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Marlowe hit run-scoring singles, and Olheiser hit an RBI triple.
• The Auggies capped their scoring in the sixth, as Billy Brookshaw (SR, Prescott, Wis.) drove in a run on a groundout, and Marlowe hit an RBI double.
• Luke Chinn (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) pitched a complete-game victory for the Auggies, striking out four while not walking a batter.


GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg took a 4-3 lead into the final frame, but the Falcons scored the tying and game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
• Schmahl led off the game with a home run -- his second leadoff homer of the season -- to give the Auggies the early lead.
• Concordia took a 3-1 lead after two innings, but Augsburg scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead back. Marlowe doubled and scored on a single by Steven Piette (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), and Mike Brookshaw hit a two-out, two-run triple later in the frame.
• Jacob Kari (SO, North Branch, Minn.) pitched six innings for the Auggies, allowing six hits and a walk. Just one of the three runs charged to him was earned.


FOR THE FOES
• Dan Ranieri, Bryan Thomas and Nathan Thyssen had two hits each for Concordia-Wisconsin in the first game. Thyssen hit a home run and Thomas added a double.
• Brad Jacob had two doubles for the Falcons in the second game, while Thyssen had a double among his two hits. Matt Schubert also had two hits.

• Augsburg closes its trip to Arizona with a doubleheader against CalTech (Calif.) on Friday (3/18) in Tucson.
