Auggies fall 6-1 in NCAA quarterfinals

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. – Outshooting Augsburg College by a 40-16 margin, St. Norbert College advanced to the NCAA Division III men's hockey national semifinals with a 6-1 win over the Auggies in a national quarterfinal game on Saturday evening at the Cornerstone Community Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored the opening goal of the game 39 seconds into the second period, as Trevor Stewart (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS) scored on a blast, assisted by Lucas Hendrickson (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS).
• The Green Knights dominated most of the game, putting constant pressure on Augsburg goalie Jordyn Kaufer (JR, Stillwater, Minn.), who had 33 saves before being relieved by Brandon Jones (SR, Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) midway through the third period.
• St. Norbert took the lead to stay with two goals in a 37-second span in the second period, eventually leading 4-1 after two periods.
• The Green Knights went 2-for-6 on the power play, while Augsburg went 0-for-4.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg, the MIAC's regular-season and playoff champions, competed in its third NCAA Division III national tournament. The Auggies finished fourth in both the 1983-84 and 1997-98 seasons.
• The game was the final contest for five Augsburg men's hockey seniors – Hendrickson, Jones, Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS), Drew Allen (SR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) and Tom Kuhn (SR, Hastings, Minn.).
• Augsburg finished its season at 17-9-2 overall, tied for its third-most wins in a single season in the team's NCAA Division III era (1983-present). The Auggies finished 21-8-4 in 1997-98, 21-13-1 in the 1983-84 season and 17-9-0 in the 2002-03 season.
