Auggies sweep Carleton on the road

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg College softball team got back on track in a big way with a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road wins against conference foe Carleton College on Sunday afternoon.  

THE BASICS
GAME SCORES: Augsburg 7, Carleton 1; Augsburg 8, Carleton 5
LOCATION: Ele Hansen Field, Northfield, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 14-10 overall (3-3 MIAC), Carleton 6-14 overall (0-4 MIAC)

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies cruised to victory in game one, scoring one run in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fifth and three more in the seventh. Augsburg tallied those seven runs on 16 hits and three walks. 
• Carleton plated just one run as two Auggie pitchers, Courtney Larsen (SO, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) and Samantha Anderson (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.), teamed up to shut down the Knights. Anderson earned the win with 3.2 innings of no-hit relief work and improved to 6-2. Anderson recorded six strikeouts while not giving up a hit and walking no one in those three-plus innings. 
• Four Auggies tallied multi-hit games with three of them finishing with three hits. Anderson helped her own cause going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a walk and a run scored. 
Brianna Cline (SO, St. Clair, Minn.) continued her hot streak, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored, while Carly Dropik (FY, Alexandria, Minn.) went 3-for-5 with one RBI.
Jenna Orth (SR, Melrose, Minn.) went 2-for-5, and every other Auggie that stepped up to the plate recorded a hit, while Haley Larson (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Ashley Anfinson (SR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) each drove in a run. 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg scored eight runs in game two on eight hits, six walks and two Carleton errors. 
• The Auggies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Carleton rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth to set the stage for an exciting finish. Augsburg went on to outscore the Knights 5-2 in the final three frames, scoring three in the sixth and two in the seventh to secure the victory. 
• The Knights outhit Augsburg 10 to eight, but the Auggies took advantage of additional baserunners with six walks, compared to just one free pass for the Knights. 
• Head coach Tim Gormley used three pitchers in game two with Carrisa Struve (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) starting and throwing 2.0 innings allowing two hits and one run. Larsen returned to the circle to throw 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Anderson earned her second win of the day, improving to 7-2, while allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four in 3.1 innings of work. 
• Cline recorded her second multi-hit game of the day, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. 
Taylor Mattice (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Meghan Springborn (SO, Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS), Larson and Anfinson each recorded one hit for the Auggies. Springborn and Larson each tallied one RBI as well.
