Auggies avenge loss to UW-Stout

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College volleyball team avenged a sweep five days earlier by the University of Wisconsin Stout with a sweep of its own, posting a victory with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 in nonconference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After competing in a very tough Northwestern tournament this past weekend, the Auggies came out ready to play in their home-opener and led virtually from start to finish. Augsburg used tough serving and a balanced offensive attack to keep the Blue Devils out of rhythm and avenge the early season loss.
• The Auggie offense was led by the duo of Jaelyn Arndt (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Taylor Linn (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS). Arndt led the way with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage, while Linn finished with 10 kills, marking her second match this season with double-digit kills.
• Morgan Malley (SO, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) had another strong night for the Auggies posting 27 assists, nine digs, five kills and three service aces. Hannah Gibbemeyer added 10 assist, while splitting setting duties.
• The Auggie defense was anchored by Macey Terhell (SO, Osceola, Wis.) who posted 17 digs, while adding five assists.
• For the match, Augsburg out-hit Stout .211 to .114.

FOR THE FOES
• Ashley Pratt finished with a team-best 11 kills, posting a .241 hitting percentage.
• Jessica DuVal led all players with 28 assists, while Carli Langeland recorded a game-high 20 digs.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts the 35th annual Augsburg College Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Si Melby Hall. The Auggies will play at 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Other teams participating in the Auggie Invitational include: UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, Northwestern St. Paul, University of Minnesota Morris and the University of St. Thomas.
• UW-Stout will travel to play in the Northland College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
