STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Augsburg College took a lead just 94 seconds into the game, but the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point used a three-goal third period to pull away from the Auggies in a 5-2 victory in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg, ranked No. 11 in the latest USCHO Division III national poll and No. 12 in the latest D3hockey.com national poll, took an early lead on the Pointers, the defending NCAA Division III national champions, currently ranked No. 3 in the USCHO poll and No. 2 in the D3hockey.com poll. But the Pointers scored twice in the second period to take the lead, then pulled away with three goals to Augsburg's one in the final stanza.
• Luke Dietsch (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) gave the Auggies a 1-0 lead with a goal 1:34 into the game, assisted by Corbin Chapman (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Chris Nuth (JR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS).
• Evan Hesse (JR, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) trimmed the Pointer lead to 3-2 with a goal at the 17:38 mark of the third period, assisted by Jason Krych (FY, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS). But the Pointers scored two goals in the final 1:16, including an empty-net goal, to seal the victory.
• UW-Stevens Point outshot Augsburg by a 48-26 margin in the game. Eric Brenk (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) had five shots on-goal to lead the Auggies.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SR, Stillwater, Minn.) had 43 saves in goal for Augsburg, the most saves in a game by an Auggie this season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg held UW-Stevens Point scoreless on four power-play opportunities on Saturday. The Auggies have allowed just four opponent power-play goals in 65 opportunities, with its .938 penalty-kill percentage tops among MIAC teams in overall statistics and second-best among NCAA Division III teams nationally.

FOR THE FOES
• Kyle Sharkey had a goal and three assists to lead UW-Stevens Point, while Lawrence Cornellier had a goal and two assists. Jacob Barber and Jono Davis had a goal and assist each, and Ethan Strong scored the other Pointer goal. 
• Max Milosek had 24 saves in goal for the Pointers.
