WINONA, Minn. -- John O'Connor (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) scored two goals with two assists for his first collegiate multi-point night, leading Augsburg University to a 5-1 win over host Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 5, Saint Mary's 1
LOCATION: Saint Mary's Arena, Winona, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-0-0 overall (3-0-0 MIAC), Saint Mary's 2-4-1 overall (1-1-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nine different Auggies figured in the scoring, enabling the Auggies to remain unbeaten to open the season. In addition to O'Connor's four-point night, Will Peterson (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Jake Larson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had a goal and asisst each, and Luke Dietsch (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had two assists, giving him 11 points (four goals, seven assists). Dietsch now leads the MIAC's overall statistics in both points and assists.
• O'Connor opened the scoring with the first of three Auggie goals in the first period -- a goal at the 7:59 mark from Austin Martinsen (FY, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) and Chandler Madry (JR, Bakersfield, Calif./Fairbanks (Alaska) BEST HS). The assist was Martinsen's first collegiate point.
• Peterson scored a power-play goal at the 14:45 mark from Larson and O'Connor, and Nate Flynn (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) notched his fourth goal of the year at the 18:11 mark, a power-play marker from Max Pernhem (SR, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) and Dietsch.
• O'Connor scored from Peterson and Dietsch in the second period, and after Saint Mary's scored a power-play goal early in the third period, the Auggies capped the scoring with a power-play goal from Larson, assisted by Alex Rodriguez (JR, Miami, Fla./Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) HS) and O'Connor.
• Augsburg was outshot by Saint Mary's by a 24-23 margin, with Nick Schmit (JR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) recording 23 saves to claim the win in goal.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg is one of just five NCAA Division III men's hockey teams that are unbeaten and untied so far this season, and the lone team with seven wins. St. Norbert is 5-0-0, and Worcester State (Mass.) is 5-0-0. Connecticut College and Trinity (Conn.) opened their seasons with wins on Friday. Stevenson (Md.) is also unbeaten, but has two ties (4-0-2).
• Augsburg's 7-0-0 start is its third season-opening unbeaten streak of seven games or more in the last five campaigns. Augsburg opened the season 8-0-1 in both the 2016-17 and 2013-14 seasons. The seven straight wins are the most consecutive to start a season for the Auggies since an eight-game winning streak to open the 1981-82 NAIA national championship season (28-1-1). Augsburg opened the year 9-0-1 before suffering its only loss that season.
• Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 34-12 margin in its first six games, and its 4.86 goals per-game average is fifth-best among all NCAA Division III teams. Augsburg has scored three or more goals in each of its seven games. Augsburg's 1.71 goals allowed per-game average is tied for eighth-best in Division III.
• With Martinsen's first collegiate point on Friday, all 22 skaters who have seen game action for Augsburg have either a goal or an assist so far this season, with 18 different players scoring goals.
• Augsburg is ranked No. 3 in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll, and No. 8 in the D3hockey.com national poll.

FOR THE FOES
• Kyle Meeh scored the lone goal of the game for the Cardinals, a power-play marker from Jay Heinle at the 3:42 mark of the third period.
• Aaron Davids had 18 saves in goal for Saint Mary's.
