MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University men's basketball team had a chance to tie with 0.6 seconds to play, but wasn't able to convert as the Auggies dropped a hard fought contest to Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies played an outstanding first half of basketball -- shooting 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the field.
Henry Mulligan (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) sparked Augsburg with a 5-for-8 shooting performance in the first frame, while adding a pair of assists, steals and rebounds. Augsburg was able to outscore Gustavus 24-10 in points in the paint in the first half and 11-4 in points off turnovers.
• Augsburg led 53-42 with 12:38 to play in the game, but the Auggie offense went cold and Gustavus put together a 12-1 run to notch the game at 54-54. Augsburg went up 61-58 off a pair of free throws by
Kevin McKiernan (JR, Savage, Minn./Prior Lake HS) with 3:17 left in the action, but the Gusties made 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 2:11 to go up 64-61 with seven seconds to play. Augsburg came down the floor and was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.6 seconds to play but could only convert on the first attempt as Augsburg dropped a hard-fought contest to MIAC rival Gustavus.
• Augsburg finished with four players in double figures, led by 14 from Mulligan. McKiernan and Harry Sonie (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) added 13 points apiece.

Collin Olmscheid (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) led Augsburg on the boards, pulling down a team-best seven rebounds to go along with 12 points. Olmscheid finished 6-of-10 from the floor and added a pair of assists.
Booker Coplin (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) dished out a team-high five assists and added eight points.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 49.0 percent from the field (25-of-51), while Gustavus connected on 48.1 percent (25-of-52) of its shot attempts. The Gusties claimed a 31-27 advantage on the boards and were able to connect on 10-of-13 from the free throw line, while Augsburg was only able to hit 6-of-13 from the charity stripe.
FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus was led by Riley Sharbono, who finished with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds.
• Vannis Smith finished with 15 points and five board for the Gusties.
