Auggies edged by Blazers in MIAC twinbill

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Brianna Cline (SR, St. Clair, Minn.) had three hits, including a home run and double, and drove in three of Augsburg College's five runs in the doubleheader, but her Auggies were swept by the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Cline hit a solo home run in the third inning and hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to account for all three Auggie runs. She plated Hollywood Hermanson (FY, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) and Amanda Niznik (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) on the double in the fourth.
• Cline went 3-for-4 for the Auggies in the first game, while Katie Parker (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) went 2-for-4 with a double. 
• Samantha Anderson (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) struck out two while not walking a batter in a complete-game pitching effort for the Auggies.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies scored their first run in the third inning, tying the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Parker, scoring Cline.
• Augsburg took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, when Niznik singled, moved to second on a single by Taylor Mattice (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS), and scored on an RBI single by Lauren Hurley (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS).
• The Blazers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh, and claimed the win with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, when Sara Wennerstrand singled home Kate Deming with the game-winning run.
• Carissa Struve (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) struck out one while not walking a batter in 7.0 innings of work, taking the loss.
• Niznik went 4-for-4 for the Auggies in the second game, while Hurley went 2-for-4.

FOR THE FOES
• Karlie Pfaff had four hits for Saint Benedict in the doubleheader, going 3-for-3 in the second game. Wennerstrand also had four hits, two in each game, and scored three runs.
• Kiela DeVlaeminck pitched a complete-game victory in the first game, striking out four while walking two.
