Auggies end season with doubleheader at Dundas

DUNDAS, Minn. -- Samantha Anderson (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) struck out 13 while walking one in two complete-game pitching efforts, but her Augsburg College softball team was unable to score in a pair of season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference losses to St. Olaf College on Sunday at the Dundas Dome.

DOUBLEHEADER HIGHLIGHTS
• The doubleheader matched two of the top pitchers in the MIAC -- Augsburg's Anderson and St. Olaf's Julie Graf. Anderson struck out four with no walks in the first game and struck out nine with one walk in the second game, while Graf had six strikeouts with no walks in the first game and 12 strikeouts with no walks in the second game.
• Anderson finished the 2017 season with 139 strikeouts against 42 walks, the second-most strikeouts in a single season in Augsburg history, behind her record-setting 157 strikeouts last year. Her 296 career strikeouts are second-most in school history, behind Rachel Ekholm's 347 from 1999 to 2002. Anderson's 139 strikeouts are third-most among MIAC pitchers in overall statistics.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg surrendered three runs in the second inning and a run in the fourth in the first game.
• The Auggies were limited to three hits in the game -- a bunt single by Haley Larson (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake HS) in the fourth inning, a single by Taylor Mattice (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) in the fifth and a bunt single by Katie Parker (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) in the sixth.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• St. Olaf scored a run in the second and two runs in the third to score the second-game victory.
• Augsburg had three hits in the second game -- a bunt single by Anesia King (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) in the first inning, a single by Parker in the fourth and a single by Carly Dropik (SO, Alexandria, Minn.) in the sixth. Dropik also had a stolen base in the game.

FOR THE FOES
• Kristina Lodahl went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the first game, and had a run-scoring double in he second game.
• Jessica Bentley hit a solo home run in the second game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The games were the final collegiate contests for six Augsburg seniors -- Larson, Brianna Cline (SR, St. Clair, Minn.), Lauren Hurley (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS), Courtney Larsen (SR, Little Canada, Minn./Concordia Academy HS), Amanda Niznik (SR, Columbia Heights, Minn.), and Carissa Struve (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS).
