Auggies top St. Kate's 79-72 in OT

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team posted an important 79-72 overtime victory over St. Catherine University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall. With the win, Augsburg moves to 9-1 overall (4-0 MIAC) and is one of only two remaining unbeaten teams in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The exciting game featured eight tie scores and 10 lead changes, with neither team ever able to extend their lead to double digits. Augsburg's Arianna Jones (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) hit a layup and was able to hit 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to put Augsburg up 68-65 with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. St. Kate's Danica Cambrice hit a three-pointer on the following possession to notch the game at 68 with 14 seconds to play. Augsburg took a timeout and got a good look at a three-point attempt with five seconds on the clock, but it didn't fall and the teams headed to overtime. Neither team was able to score for the first two minutes of overtime, but Augsburg shot 9-for-10 from the free-throw line over the final 2:58 to seal the victory.
Tamira McLemore (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led Augsburg with her second double-double of the season, finishing with a season-high 26 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. McLemore finished 9-of-21 from the floor, while adding four steals and three assists.
• Despite fouling out, Camryn Speese (JR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) finished with 15 points, going 5-of-8 from the floor in 21 minutes of action.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Jones and Aiza Wilson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS). Jones finished with 12 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Wilson finished with 11 points and a pair of rebounds.
Jazmyn Solseth (SO, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) tied a career-best with five steals, while Camille McCoy (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) pulled down six rebounds and added a career-best five assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the field, while St. Catherine connected on 50.0 percent (27-of-54) of its shot attempts. The Auggies posted a narrow 40-39 advantage on the boards, but the big difference in the game came down to turnovers. Augsburg forced 24 Wildcat turnovers, while only committing 15, and posted a 24-13 advantage in points off-turnovers.

 FOR THE FOES
• St. Catherine was led by the duo of Danica Cambrice and Audra Clark. Cambrice finished with a team-high 22 points, while adding six rebounds and a pair of assists.
• Clark finished with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort, while adding five assists. 

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/15) at 1 p.m. hosting Trinity (Texas) in a nonconference match-up at Si Melby Hall.
