MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University men's hockey team couldn't overcome an early deficit, in falling in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season finale 4-2 at Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, Augsburg cut the lead to 2-1 with 22 seconds left in the second period, as
Adam Pancoast (SR, Thief River Falls, Minn./Thief River Falls HS) scored his second collegiate goal, assisted by
Gunnar Goodmanson (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS).
• Concordia scored two empty-net goals in the final minute of play, bracketing an Augsburg extra-attacker goal by WIll Peterson (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) with 10 seconds left, assisted by
Luke Dietsch (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).
• Augsburg held a 39-24 shots on-goal advantage in the game, including a 16-6 edge in the third period. Pancoast had five shots on-goal, while Dietsch had four. Every skater but one in the Augsburg lineup had at least one shot on-goal in the game.

Nick Schmit (JR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) had 20 saves in goal for the Auggies.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg will compete in its fourth straight
MIAC postseason playoffs, and is the No. 3 seed in the five-team tournament. Augsburg will play at No. 2-seed Saint John's (16-7-2) next Saturday (2/24) at 2 p.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn., in the playoff semifinals. The teams split their MIAC games this season, with
Augsburg winning 7-4 at Saint John's on Feb. 1, and the
Johnnies winning 2-1 at Augsburg on Feb. 2.
FOR THE FOES
• Zack Doerring factored in all four Concordia goals, assisting on the first three goals before scoring the final goal, an empty-net marker with four seconds left in the contest. Beau Willmer scored a shorthanded goal in the first period, while Tanner Okeson put the Cobbers ahead with a goal early in the second period. Jon Greosky scored the first of Concordia's two empty-net goals.
• Jacob Stephan had 37 saves in goal for Concordia.
• Concordia will also compete in the MIAC playoffs as the No. 5 seed. The Cobbers will play in the first-round game at No. 4-seed Gustavus (10-12-3) on Thursday (2/22) at 7:05 p.m., with the winner playing at top-seed St. Thomas (16-8-1) on Saturday.
