Bednar shines in senior finale

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bridget Bednar (SR, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) ended her Augsburg University women's basketball career on a high note, leading the Auggies to a 77-75 victory over Macalester College in the teams' final Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season contest on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg finished the season 12-12 overall (8-10 MIAC), in a tie for sixth-place in the MIAC standings, but unfortunately missed out on the final playoff spot due to tiebreak criteria.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg led for 34:09 of the game, but as in the two teams' previous meeting, the game went down to the wire. The Auggies made 1-of-2 free throws to go up 77-75, and the Augsburg defense held the Scots scoreless for the remainder of the game to claim the season-ending victory.
• Bednar led Augsburg on the boards, pulling down a team-best seven rebounds, while scoring a season-best 14 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
• Leading the Augsburg offensive attack was K'Aezha Wubben (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS), who scored 17 points on a 4-for-6 afternoon, including a perfect 3-of-3 effort from beyond the three-point arc. Wubben added three rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
• Also finishing in double figures for Augsburg were Tamira McLemore (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and Aiza Wilson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS), who scored 11 points apiece. McLemore added an impressive five assists, tying teammate Arianna Jones (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), who also dished out five assists while adding eight points and three steals.
• For the afternoon, Augsburg connected on 40.3 percent (25-of-62) of its shot attempts, while Macalester shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the floor.
• The Scots claimed a 37-30 advantage on the boards, but the big difference in the game was three-point shooting. The Auggies finished the game connecting on 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from beyond the arc, while Macalester was held to just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from long range.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Senior Bridget Bednar finished her Augsburg career as a two-sport athlete, excelling in both basketball and volleyball for the Auggies. In basketball, she played in 101 career games, scoring 637 points and pulling down 435 rebounds.

• Macalester was led by a 19-point, eight-rebound effort from Regan Fruh.
• Tyana Loiselle and Justine Barraza added 14 and 10 points respectively for the Scots.
