Auggies clinch spot in MIAC playoffs with win over Wildcats

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's hockey team clinched a berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs for the third straight year, rallying from an early deficit to claim a 4-1 win over St. Catherine University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Megan Robertson (SR, Boissevain, Manitoba/Boissevain HS) claimed her second career two-goal game on Friday, tying the game at 1-1 with a goal from Jacie Hoehn (JR, Waseca, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) and Hollywood Hermanson (SO, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS)  at the 7:18 mark of the first period, then scoring an unassisted goal on a shorthanded breakaway at the 14:56 mark of the third period. Robertson, who added an assist for a career-high three-point night, now has seven goals on the season.
• Bridget Wagner (SO, Niles, Ill./Maine South HS) tied for the team lead with her eighth goal of the year, giving the Auggies a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal from Robertson and Kalli Prekker (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) at the 5:33 mark of the second period. Wagner is now tied for the team lead with eight goals on the year -- one of four players with seven or more goals this season for the Auggies.
• Nikki Nightengale (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) capped the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1:39 left in the game.
• Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 41-25 margin in the game. Megan Johnson (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had seven shots on-goal in the game, with Robertson and Emily Ach (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) adding five shots each.
• Rebecca Sonnek (SR, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced to pick up the victory, improving to 5-5-2 on the year.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With the win, Augsburg clinched a spot in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs for the third straight season, standing with 19 league points with three conference games remaining. It's the seventh time Augsburg has reached the MIAC playoffs in program history.
• Augsburg has outscored its opponents by a 59-36 margin this season. It's the 11th time this season that Augsburg has scored three or more goals in a game.

FOR THE FOES
• Morgan Tentis opened the scoring with a goal from Brede Postier and Tori Thompson at the 3:14 mark of the first period.
• Kristen Pechacek had 37 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
