TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Augsburg University softball team fell in a pair of contests at the Tucson Invitational Games on Wednesday, falling to the Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) 7-2 and to Cornell College (Iowa) 11-0 in five innings.

• Augsburg led after the first inning, as
Samantha Anderson (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) hit an RBI single to plate
Anesia King (SO, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS). But Stevens Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two more in the second and another in the third to take a commanding lead.

Carly Dropik (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) led off the fifth inning with a double, then scored on a single by
Taylor Mattice (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS).
• Anderson went 3-for-4 in the first game, while also striking out five in 6.0 innings of relief in the pitching circle. Mattice went 2-for-4 in the game.
• For Stevens Tech, Corrine Loncar went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Farryl Groder went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Melissa Alfonso hit a solo home run.
CORNELL GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Cornell sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, then scored a run in the second, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game early via the NCAA eight-run rule.
• Augsburg was limited to five hits -- singles by Anderson, Mattice,
Katie Parker (SR. Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS),
Shannon Dale (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and
Nell Gehrke (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS).
• Anderson struck out four while walking three in three innings of relief, with
Bella Kallas (FY, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) allowing a hit and unearned run in 1.2 innings in her first collegiate pitching appearance.
