2018 NABCÂ DIVISION III ALL-AMERICAÂ RELEASE
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University men's basketball forward
Collin Olmscheid (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) has been named as a second-team honoree to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-America Team, it was announced on Wednesday.
It's the fourth time an Augsburg player has ever earned NABCÂ All-America honors;
Dan Kornbaum '14 was a second-team selection in 2013-14, and Devean George '99 was a second-team selection in both 1997-98 and 1998-99. The All-America honors, made up of three eight-member teams, are selected and voted by Division III coaches who are members of the NABC.
The honors are the latest for Olmscheid,Â
the 2017-18 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year. This season, Olmscheid has earned All-MIAC first-team honors,
NABC Division III All-West Region first-team honors and D3hoops.com All-West Region first-team honors, in addition to being named the
D3hoops.com West Region Player of the Year. In prior years, he earned All-MIAC first-team honors in both his sophomore and junior seasons and was an
D3hoops.com All-West Region squad third-team honoree in 2016-17. In 2014-15, he earned All-MIAC honorable mention and All-MIAC Rookie Team honors.
This Saturday (3/17, 2:30 p.m.), Olmscheid will cap his collegiate career by playing in the
NABC/Reese's College All-Star Game; in Salem, Va., prior to the NCAA Division III national championship game there. He is the second Augsburg player to ever play in the All-Star Game; Kornbaum was selected in 2014.
The MIAC's scoring champion in 2017-18, Olmscheid finished his senior season scoring 613 points, averaging 21.1 points per-game -- the lone MIAC player to average 20.0 points or more in overall play. His 5.4 rebounds per-game average was 13th-best among MIAC players. Playing a league-high 33.3 minutes per-game this season, Olmscheid led the MIAC in field goals made (225), while standing seventh in field-goal percentage (56.4), 10th in three-pointers (48), sixth in three-point percentage (46.2), first in free throws (115) and first in free-throw percentage (88.5).
Among NCAA Division III players in overall statistics, he ranked 19th in total points and 20th in free-throw percentage. He scored in double figures in his final 20 games in a row, 75 of his last 82 games, and in 91 of his 106 career contests.
Olmscheid has cemented himself in the Augsburg men's basketball record book. Playing in 106 career games (85 starts), he finished his career fourth in school history in career scoring (1,887 points), with his 17.8 ppg career average seventh-best. Brian Ammann (1981-85) holds the Augsburg career scoring record with 2,271 points, followed by Devean George (1995-99) with 2,258 and Dan Anderson (1961-65) with 2,052.
Olmscheid finished fourth in Augsburg history in career field goals (692), 10th in career field-goal percentage (.529), third in career three-pointers (171), fifth in career free throws (332), fourth in career free-throw percentage (.838) and eighth in career rebounds (637), with his 106 career games played tied for fourth-most in program history. With 637 career rebounds (6.0 rpg), Olmscheid is one of only five Auggies to ever have 1,000-plus career points and 600-plus career rebounds.
Under 13th-year head coach
Aaron Griess, Augsburg finished 21-8 overall, 13-7 in MIAC play. The Auggies won the conference playoff championship for the first time in program history, coming from the No. 4 seed to win three games, including the final two on the road at Saint John's and Bethel. Augsburg competed in the NCAA Division III national playoffs for the fourth time in program history and first time since 1999.
