Auggies gain nonconference split at UNW

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Anesia King (SO, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) went 4-for-9 with four runs scored and five RBI in the doubleheader, with a double, triple and home run to lead the Augsburg University softball team in a split at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Thursday.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Scoring three runs in the first inning and three in the fourth, Augsburg took a 6-3 advantage, only to see Northwestern tie the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth, eventually forcing extra innings. The Eagles won the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
• Back-to-back doubles -- a two-run double by Shannon Dale (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and an RBI double by Taylor Mattice (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) -- accounted for Augsburg's runs in the first inning.
• King hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, followed later by a run-scoring single by Katie Parker (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS).
• Pitcher Samantha Anderson (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) struck out six while walking four in a complete-game effort, with just four of the seven Northwestern runs being earned, as the Eagles took advantage of three Augsburg errors.
• Parker, Dale and Nell Gehkre (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) had two hits each in the first game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the fifth inning, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh and holding off a two-run rally by Northwestern in the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles stranded the potential tying and go-ahead runs on base to end the game.
• Augsburg sent 10 batters to the plate in the top fo the seventh, with the key hits being a two-run triple by King, a two-run double by Parker and a run-scoring double by Anderson -- all with two outs.
• King hit a run-scoring single in the second inning, and Anderson hit an RBI double in the third, later scoring following a fielding error. Back-to-back doubles by King and Jacquline Nichols (JR, Royalton, Minn./Royalton HS) plated a run in the fourth inning for the Auggies.
• Making her first start and third pitching appearance of her collegiate career, Bella Kallas (FY, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) gained her first victory, allowing three walks and 11 hits in seven innings.
• King went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Parker and Anderson both had two hits and two RBI. Mattice went 2-for-4 with a run scored, as did Carly Dropik (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS).

FOR THE FOES
• Kayla Hannasch went 4-for-8 with a double, run scored and three RBI in the doubleheader, while Kayla Madison had three hits, drove in four runs and scored twice.
• Ellie Ronning hit the game-winning home run for the Eagles in the first game, and Abbie Nelson hit a solo home run in the second game.
• Nelson struck out one while walking on in four innings of the first game, with Lexi Kopacek striking out four and walking two in five innings of relief. Three pitchers worked in the second game for the Eagles.

• Augsburg is scheduled to play a nonconference doubleheader on Monday (3/26) at 3:30 p.m. at Crown College.
