Set pieces lift Auggies to 2-1 win at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Two goals off of set pieces in a 12-minute span in the second half lifted the Augsburg University men's soccer team to a 2-1, come-from-behind victory at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday evening.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Goals off a corner kick in the 56th minute, and a free kick in the 68th minute, lifted Augsburg in its first-ever win against the Warhawks. UW-Whitewater was 3-0-1 in its prior four meetings with the Auggies.
• Nick Zuchowski (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) tied the game at 1-1 with his first collegiate goal at the 55:29 mark, heading home a corner kick by Lionel Vang (JR, Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS).
• Defender Daniel Hedstrom (JR, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) gave the visitors a 2-1 lead with his first goal in his two seasons as an Auggie, knocking home a free kick from Johnny Vu (SO, Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) at the  67:59 mark.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 9-6 margin, but converted two of its three shots on-goal into scores. Vang had three shots for the Auggies.
• Zachary Berg (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Farmington HS), playing the final 29 minutes in relief of starter Garrett Kaelin (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS), had two saves to pick up the victory. Kaelin had one save in 61 minutes.

FOR THE FOES
• Jack Wirth gave UW-Whitewater a 1-0 lead at the 8:54 mark of the game, scoring on a penalty kick.
• Toney Anderson had one save in goal for the Warhawks.
