MINNEAPOLIS -- Surrendering the lone goal of the game in the 28th minute, the Augsburg University women's soccer team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 loss at St. Catherine University on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg gave up a goal at the 27:37 mark of the first half, as a shot off a corner kick deflected off an Augsburg defender into the net.
• Kealie Espinda Banick (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS), Nora Edelen (SR, Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS), Ashley St. Aubin (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS), Gabriela Encarnacion (JR, Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) and Jessy Wiskofske (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) had two shots each for the Auggies.
• St. Catherine outshot Augsburg by an 18-12 margin, including an 11-6 advantage in the second half.
• Augsburg goalkeeper Emily Chapman (JR, Elburn, Ill./Kaneland HS) had eight saves.
• Tuesday's game was a meeting of last year's MIAC regular-season champions (Augsburg) and the conference playoff titlists (St. Catherine).

FOR THE FOES
• Kaitlin Machovec scored the Wildcats' goal, off an Allie Bird corner kick.
