ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Tommy Carey (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) scored two power-play goals, part of a three-goal second period that propelled the No. 5-ranked Augsburg University men's hockey team to a 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Hamline University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg converted three power-play goals on four extra-man opportunities, as it extended its unbeaten streak to 10 straight games (8-0-2). The Auggies are now converting on a 24.2-percent power-play pace (15-of-62), the power-play goals
tops among MIAC teams and percentage second-best in the conference.
• Carey claimed his first collegiate multi-goal game, scoring a power-play goal from
Chandler Madry (SR, Bakersfield, Calif./Fairbanks (Alaska) BEST HS) and
Eric Brenk (SR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) at the 1:36 mark of the second period, and scoring another extra-man marker from Brenk and
John O'Connor (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) at the 10:06 mark. Carey now has four power-play goals, second-most among MIAC players so far this season, and he leads the league with eight power-play points (four goals, four assists).
• Brenk also assisted on the opening goal of the game, a power-play score by
Lukas Gillett (SR, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) at the 16:34 mark of the first period. It marked Brenk's first three-assist game of his college career. Brenk is tied for fourth among MIAC players with six power-play points (one goal, five assists).

Luke Dietsch (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored an even-strength goal at the 3:11 mark of the second period, assisted by Lukas Niezelski (FY, Manchester, Conn./East Catholic HS).

Jake Larson (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) gave the Auggies a cushion with a pair of empty-net goals in the final 1:04 of play, both from Gillett, for his third career multi-goal game.
• Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 35-22 margin.
Nick Schmit (SR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) had 19 saves in goal for Augsburg, moving to 7-0-2 on the year.

• Augsburg entered the game ranked No. 5 nationally in the most recent rankings by both USCHO.com and D3hockey.com, prior to the holiday break.
FOR THE FOES
• Austin Wisely scored from Mitch McPherson for the Pipers at the 17:46 mark of the first period, and Tyler Nyman tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted goal at the 3:11 mark of the second. Bailey Martin trimmed the Auggie advantage to 4-3 with a goal from Kyle Wendorf and Taylor Trapp 58 seconds into the third period.
• Sam Nelson had 29 saves in goal for Hamline.
