Auggies have strong shooting day in 16-point win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind a 55.2-percent shooting performance and a dominant second-half effort, the Augsburg University men's basketball team remained unbeaten in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 73-57 home win over Carleton College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Leading just 38-37 at halftime, Augsburg slowly pulled away from Carleton in the second half. An 11-2 run gave the Auggies a 49-39 lead with 15:19 left in the game, and the hosts eventually extended the lead to as many as 23 points down the stretch.
• Augsburg connected on 32-of-58 (55.2 percent) from the field, its second-best shooting performance of the season, and led for all but three minutes in the contest.
• Seventeen of the 18 Auggies who dressed for the game saw action, with eight different Auggies scoring points. 
• Booker Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), the MIAC's leading scorer with a 25.3 points per-game average, again led the way for Augsburg with a 27-point effort on 11-of-18 shooting and 4-of-7 from three-point range, adding five rebounds. It marks Coplin's 34th 20-plus-point effort in his 63 career games during three seasons at Augsburg.
Carter Duncan (SR, Chisago City, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, claiming a career-high four steals despite playing just 11 minutes due to foul trouble.
Matt Carik (JR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) scored eight points with five assists and three rebounds, hitting two 3-pointers.
Joe Palmer (FY, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) came off the bench to score seven points in 16 minutes of work, while Bradley Winter (FY, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) and Isaiah Robinson (SR, Apple Valey, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) scored six points each.
• Carleton shot 53.7 percent from the field (22-of-41) and out-rebounded Augsburg by a 27-24 margin. But the Auggies took advantage of 22 Carleton turnovers, scoring 23 points. The Knights scored 12 points off of 12 Augsburg turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• Jeremy Beckler led the Knights with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
• Kent Hanson scored 16 points with four rebounds and five assists.
