MINNEAPOLIS -- With 12 of its 19 skaters figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg University men's hockey team expanded its lead to 10 points in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 5-1 victory over Saint John's University on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg dominated the Johnnies throughout the contest, claiming a 50-17 advantage in shots on-goal -- 19-4 in the first period, 21-5 in the second period and 10-8 in the third period. Augsburg had a 90-48 shots advantage in the series with the Johnnies on the weekend.

Alex Rodriguez (SR, Miami, Fla./Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) HS) opened the scoring with a goal at the 11:32 mark of the first period, and added an assist on a third-period goal for a two-point night. Rodriguez
leads the MIAC in overall goals with 18, while standing second with 32 points (18 goals, 14 assists), with his 14 assists tied for fifth-most.
Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Rodriguez is tied for second nationally in total goals, with his 0.86 goals-per-game average fourth-best. He is tied for 11th nationally in points per-game (1.52).

Chandler Madry (SR, Bakersfield, Calif./Fairbanks (Alaska) BEST HS) assisted on Rodriguez's goal, and assisted with Rodriguez on a power-play goal by
Tommy Carey (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) late in the third period. Madry now has a team-high 17 assists on the season, second-most among MIAC players, with his 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) tied for third in the MIAC.
• The Auggies scored goals in the first and final minutes of the second period, as
Austin Martinsen (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored 46 seconds into the frame, and
Jason Krych (JR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored a power-play marker at the 19:07 mark.

Gavin Holland (FY, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) capped the scoring with an empty-net goal from
Matt Hines (FY, Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) in the final minute.

Austin Dollimer (FY, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) extended his consecutive-game point streak to five straight games with an assist on Martinsen's second-period goal. He now has 14 points (eight goals, six assists), third-most among MIAC rookies.

John O'Connor (JR, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS,
Matt Nehls (SO, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS),
Patrick O'Connor (FY, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) and
Luke Dietsch (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) also had assists in Friday's win.

Nick Schmit (SR, Fargo, Minn./Fargo North HS) had 16 saves in goal. Schmit's 2.05 goals against-average is second-best among MIAC goalies, while his .928 save percentage is fourth-best.

• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by an 87-50 margin this season, leading the MIAC in both scoring offense (3.78 goals scored per-game) and scoring defense (2.17 goals allowed per-game). Augsburg's 87 goals are 16 more than any other league team. • Completing its weekend series on Friday, Augsburg now has 35 league points, extending its lead over second-place Concordia-Moorhead (25 points) and third-place St. Thomas (24 points). FOR THE FOES
• Davis Kirkendall scored the lone goal of the game for the Johnnies, scoring from Ryan Kero and Michael Mahan at the 5:01 mark of the second period.
• Andrew Lindgren had 45 saves in goal for Saint John's.
