MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University softball team dropped a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at the No. 11-ranked University of St. Thomas on Monday afternoon, falling 2-0 and 11-4.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg collected just three hits in the first game -- a leadoff double by
Anesia King (JR, Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS), a single by
Sam Anderson (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) in the fourth inning and a single by
Mackenzie Evenson (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) in the fifth.
• Anderson pitched a complete-game effort for the Auggies, striking out two against just three walks and four hits. The Tommies scored on a solo home run in the first inning and on a two-out RBI single in the second.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• St. Thomas scored the first seven runs of the game in the opening two innings, but Augsburg got back into the game with a four-run third inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. But the Tommies scored twice in the bottom of the third, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth to pull away again.
• In the third, back-to-back singles by
Shannon Dale (JR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) and
Nell Gehrke (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS). along with a walk by King, loaded the bases, and
Sarah Garcia (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) plated a run when she reached base on a fielding error. Anderson then hit a run-scoring single,
Hollywood Hermanson (JR, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) gained an RBI on a walk and
Elly Strunk (SO, Blooming Prairie, Minn./Blooming Prairie HS) drove in a run on a single.
• Hermanson and Gehrke had two hits each for the Auggies, with Gehrke connecting on a double in the sixth inning.
• Anderson and Strunk each pitched three innings for the Auggies in the game, with Anderson striking out four while walking two.
FOR THE FOES
• Chase Shortly went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with four RBI, hitting a solo home run in the first game and going 3-for-3 with three RBI in the second game. Dana Connelly hit three doubles in the second game, driving in two runs.
• Kierstin Anderson-Glass pitched a complete-game shutout in the first game for the Tommies, ranked No. 11 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III national poll. She struck out six against no walks.
