Comeback falls short in loss to Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- A second straight incredible comeback wasn't in the cards for the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team, as the Auggies dropped their regular-season finale 16-11 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference contest on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UW-River Falls dominated the first half, building an 8-2 lead at the break and expanded the advantage to 11-3 two minutes into the second half. Augsburg slowly chipped away at the lead, eventually cutting it to 13-8 with 12:50 left to play, but the Auggies could get no closer than five, as the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
• Goalie Maddie Seykora (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) claimed 16 saves in goal -- her 11th double-digit save performance of the season and fifth in a row -- adding three ground balls. Seykora finished the regular season second among MWLC goalies with 190 saves and a.522 save percentage, while her 66 ground balls are fifth-most among MWLC players.
• Annika Hegrenes (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) led the Auggies with four goals, adding four draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. It's her 10th multi-goal game of the season and sixth game with three or more goals.
• Mikayla Jones (JR, Oak Park Heights, Minn./B.E. Emerson Prep HS) scored three goals, her 10th multi-goal game of the season, and added two draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball. 
• Christina Nelson (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scored a goal with four draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while McKenna Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) scored a goal with three ground balls and two caused turnovers
• Mikayla Knudson (JR, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored a goal with two draw controls and a ground ball, and Megan Furlong (SO, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) also scored a goal. Kassie Diaz (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had three ground balls.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 42-34 margin by UW-River Falls. The Falcons also had 17 draw controls to Augsburg's 12, while Augsburg had 19 ground balls to the Falcons' 13.

FOR THE FOES
• Emma Kohlbeck scored eight goals to lead UW-River Falls, with Sophia Leong scoring three goals with five draw controls and three ground balls.
• Grace Ross had 12 saves and three ground balls in goal for the Falcons.

• Augsburg is the No. 4 seed in the four-team Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference postseason playoffs, and will face top-seed Hamline University in a semifinal game on Friday (5/3) at 11 a.m. at Hamline's Klas Field in St. Paul, Minn.
