Auggie bats go quiet against Oles

MINNEAPOLIS -- Managing just five hits in the two games, the Augsburg University softball team dropped a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to St. Olaf College on Sunday morning, falling 1-0 in nine innings and 7-1.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The first game was a pitchers' duel between Augsburg's Sam Anderson (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and St. Olaf's Julie Graf. Graf pitched a nine-inning no-hitter, striking out 16 while allowing just four walks. Meanwhile, Anderson had eight strikeouts against four walks and five hits, but forced St. Olaf into stranding 11 runners on base in the game.
• Augsburg had baserunners in the first and seventh innings, then had two runners aboard in the eighth, but the eighth-inning threat ended with a strikeout.
• St. Olaf scored in the bottom of the ninth, as Kaleigh Santmyer singled home Jordan Melz with the game-winning run.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg allowed four runs in the fourth inning, another in the third and two more in the sixth, as St. Olaf pounded out 10 hits in the game.
• The Auggies' lone run came in the fifth inning, as Elly Strunk (SO, Blooming Prairie, Minn./Blooming Prairie HS) led off the frame with a single, moved to second on a fielding error and to third on a sacrifice bunt by Camryn Keymes (SO, Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS), then scored on an RBI groundout by Sarah Garcia (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).
• Strunk struck out one against one walk in a complete-game effort, but four of the seven runs charged to her were unearned, as the Auggies committed five errors in the game.
• Hollywood Hermanson (JR, Dover, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) hit a double for the Auggies in the second game, and Strunk, Anderson, Anesia King (JR, Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) and Shannon Dale (JR, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) also had base hits.

FOR THE FOES
• Ally Bode had four hits in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-3 effort with a double, triple, three RBI and a run scored in the second game. Abby Grismer also had three hits in the second game, including two doubles, and Hannah Matthies had two hits, including a home run, with two RBI and a run scored.
• Sydney Robson struck out five against one walk and three hits in 4.1 innings of pitching, with Grismer striking out four against two walks in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
