CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team recorded two big wins on the final day of the Pacific Coast Classic. The Auggies were able to post a thrilling five set win over No. 5 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and followed that with a 3-1 win over Chapman University. The Auggies finished the tournament with a 3-1 record in an impressive debut to the 2019 season.
Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and Jade Fullterton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View Hs) were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding performances.
THE BASICS - AUGSBURG VS. CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS
• The Augsburg University volleyball team posted an incredible five set victory over No. 5 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, one of the highest ranked opponents the Augsburg volleyball team has ever beaten. The Auggies were out-hit .253 to .243 and out-dug 91 to 74, but were able to continue to shine in the blocking department posting a 11.0-8.0 advantage in blocks and recorded 11 services aces compared to just four for CMS.
• The Augsburg offense had a balanced attack, finishing with four players in double figures.
Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Kayla Gjerde (SO, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) led the way with 13 kills apiece. Evans was 13-of-37, for a .270 hitting percentage and added six blocks (one solo). Gjerde posted her second kill-dig double-double of the young season, finishing with 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs.

Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) finished with a season-best 12 kills, while adding three service aces and a block assist.
Megan Quam (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) led the team in hitting efficiency, converting 10 kills on 18 attempts, with only one error, while adding six digs and five blocks.
• Setters
Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and
Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) continued to split the setting duties and dished out 21 assists apiece. Barr added 14 digs and a career-high six service aces, while Lang added 12 digs and a pair of kills.
• Defensive specialist
Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) picked up 11 digs and added six assists, while
Jade Fullerton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View Hs) added six kills and five blocks.
FOR THE FOES (CMS)
• CMS also had a balanced offensive attack, finishing with five players recording double-digit kills. Lucilia Grinspan, led the way with 13 kills on 24 attempts.
• Sarah Tritschler posted a match-high 30 digs, while Phoebe Madsen finished with 28 assists and 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CHAPMAN
• The Augsburg volleyball team kept its momentum rolling in its second match of the day. The Auggies hit .209, while holding Chapman to just a .014 hitting percentage. Augsburg finished with 10.0 team blocks, compared to just 3.0 team blocks for the Panthers.
• Evans shined for the Auggies, finishing with a match-high 12 kills on 27 attempts, with no errors, for a .444 hitting percentage. She also added a career-high seven digs, to go along with five blocks (one solo) and a pair of aces.
• Fullerton was incredibly efficient for the Auggies, finishing with seven kills on 14 attempts, with no errors, while adding four blocks (two solo).
Jade Boysen (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) added a season-best eight kills and four blocks, while Gjerde added seven kills and five digs.
• Barr finished with 19 assists and eight digs while Lang added 13 assists and eight digs. Rios and Nierengarten added 12 and 11 digs respectively.
FOR THE FOES (CHAPMAN)
• Mavis Lui led the Panthers with 10 kills and 11 digs.
• Cat Helgeson picked up a match-high 15 digs.
