Fall food drive set for Augsburg events this weekend

MINNEAPOLIS -- Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food and toiletry items to help stock the Augsburg University Campus Cupboard and Augsburg Campus Kitchen during Augsburg's first fall donation drive during Augsburg's home athletic events this weekend.

Collections of non-perishable food and toiletry items, along with cash donations, will be accepted at the door during the three home athletic events this weekend at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field:
• Friday (9/13) at 7:30 p.m. - Men's Soccer vs. Luther (Iowa)
• Saturday (9/14) at 1 p.m. - Football vs. Concordia-Wisconsin
• Sunday (9/15) at 11 a.m. - Women's Soccer vs. Loras (Iowa)

All non-perishable items may be donated, but items that are healthy and/or can be eaten as a meal are especially needed, such as: rice, pasta, mac and cheese, ravioli, trail mix, granola bars, protein bars, peanut butter, canned soup, canned beans, canned vegetables and fruits, canned meat (meat, fish, chicken, salmon) and dried fruit. Toiletry donation ideas include shampoo, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, pads and tampons and lotion.

The Augsburg Campus Cupboard is a free service for all Augsburg students who are in need of food or toiletry items. The Campus Cupboard is located in the Foss Center's Hoversten Chapel and is open at least three days a week. Students may use up to five items per day.

Donations will also be accepted for the Augsburg Campus Kitchen, a program which serves Augsburg's neighbors in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis. Campus Kitchen also hosts open cooking hours for Auggies in the Food Lab in the Hagfors Center (Room 108) and is seeking ingredient donations: olive oil, canola oil, sugar, brown sugar, flour, baking powder, spices, oats and chocolate chips.

This is the fourth year that Augsburg Athletics has held a food drive to benefit the Campus Cupboard, and its first fall food drive. A similar drive will also be held during the winter sports season.
