Volleyball tops UWL and Edgewood

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team posted a pair of victories on Saturday at the Luther College Invitational, topping UW-Lacrosse 3-1 and Edgewood 3-0 in nonconference action in Iowa.

THE BASICS - AUGSBURG VS. UW-LACROSSE
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. UW-Lacrosse 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-16, 26-24)
LOCATION: Dubuque, Iowa
RECORDS: Augsburg 9-2, UW-Lacrosse 3-5

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UW-LACROSSE
• Augsburg was able to rebound from a Friday set-back with an important 3-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse on Saturday afternoon. The Auggies claimed 26-24 victories in the first and fourth sets and a dominant 25-16 victory in the third set. Augsburg has played UWL for the past seven seasons consecutively and holds a 5-2 record against the Eagles over that time frame.
• The Auggies hit .219 for the match, while holding UWL to just a .136 hitting percentage. Augsburg has held its opponents to under a .150 hitting percentage in nine of the 11 matches this season, all matches the Auggies have won.
• Megan Quam (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) led the Augsburg offense with 10 kills -- her second double-digit kill total of the season. She added two solo blocks and a dig in the match.
• Jade Boysen (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Lexie Lang (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) finished with nine kills respectively. Boysen hit .240 and added five blocks (one solo), while Lang was an impressive 9-of-14 (.643 hitting percentage) and nearly completed a triple double, adding with 13 assists and 17 digs.
• Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) added 16 assists, while Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino Grace HS) picked up a match-high 18 digs.
• Augsburg posted an 11-7 advantage in team blocks in the match and has a 24-11 advantage in solo blocks and 143-75 advantage in block assists for the season.

FOR THE FOES (UW-LACROSSE)
• Emma Lawrence led all players with 20 kills on 54 attempts, while adding 11 digs.
• Abbey Fox finished with 34 assists and 12 digs for a double-double on the afternoon.

FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Edgewood 3-0 (26-14, 25-19, 26-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EDGEWOOD
• Augsburg posted its fifth three-set victory of the season, sweeping Edgewood and featuring 15 different Auggies who saw action in the match.
• The Augsburg offense was led by its outside hitters Maddie Nierengarten (JR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) and Kayla Gjerde (SO, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS), who both hit over .400 for the match. Nierngarten led all players with a match-high nine kills, while Gjerde was right behind with eight kills, while adding three blocks.
•  Izzy Barr (SO, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) finished with a match-best 17 assists, while Jaelin Rios (SR, Champlin, Minn./Totino Grace HS) continued to achor the Auggie defense, picking up a match-best eight digs. 
• Jade Fullerton (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) continued to be a strong presence at the net, recording four blocks while adding five kills.

FOR THE FOES (EDGEWOOD)
• Augsburg was led by Mackenzie Doherty, who finished with eight kills and added a pair of assists.
• Amanda Meister picked up six digs for the Eagles.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action Friday (9/20) at 7 p.m. taking on rival Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
