Auggies fall to Gusties in battle of ranked teams

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Gustavus Adolphus College rallied from a four-point halftime deficit with a 31-15 third quarter, holding on for an 75-64 win over visiting Augsburg University in a battle of ranked teams in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used an 18-9 second-quarter run to take a 30-26 lead at halftime. But the Gusties turned the tables on the Auggies in the third quarter, claiming a 31-15 advantage to take a 12-point lead. The Gusties extended the lead to as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter, with the Auggies only able to cut the advantage to seven points.
• One of the keys to the game came at the free-throw line, where the Gusties connected on 23-of-24 attempts, compared to just 5-of-11 for the Auggies.
Tamira McLemore (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) scored 13 points with three rebounds and three steals to lead the Auggies. 
Jazmyn Solseth (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) scored 12 points with four rebounds and three assists, and Camryn Speese (SR, Bloomington, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) scored 10 points with four rebounds and two steals.
• Off the bench, Jen Masello (SO, Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South HS) scored nine points and Nicole Zielsdorf (JR, Arden Hills, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) scored eight points.
• Both teams entered the game ranked in the top 25 in the D3hoops.com Division III national poll, Augsburg at No. 15 and Gustavus at No. 21.

FOR THE FOES
• Caitlyn Roman led all players with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Gusties.
• Marisa Gustafson scored 18 points with six rebounds, and Paige Richert scored 12 points with four rebounds.
