Augsburg blanked at Gustavus in MIAC title game

ST. PETER, Minn. -- The No. 10-ranked Augsburg University women's hockey team was shut out in its bid for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff championship, falling 3-0 at No. 4-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in the title game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless first period, Augsburg surrendered a power-play goal to the Gusties midway through the second period. Augsburg pulled its goalie with 2:33 left in the third period, but Gustavus scored two empty-net goals to seal the championship, snapping Augsburg's 11-game winning streak in the process.
• Gustavus dominated possession, outshooting Augsburg by a 27-11 margin in the game, including a 20-7 advantage in the final two periods.
• Goalie Annie Juergens (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had 24 saves in goal for the Auggies.
Nikki Nightengale (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had three shots on-goal for Augsburg.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Competing in its fifth MIAC postseason tournament in a row and ninth in school history, Augsburg is now 7-8-0 all-time in the MIAC playoffs.
• Augsburg will hope for one of three at-large "Pool C" bids to the 10-team NCAA Division III national tournament, which will be announced during an online webcast on onday (3/9) at 9 a.m. on the NCAA.com website.

FOR THE FOES
• Clara Billings scored a power-play goal at the 9:14 mark of the second period for Gustavus, and Hailey Holland scored two empty-net goals in the final 1:19.
