Auggies efficient in sweep of Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS -- Walker Rogers (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) hit a double and two-run triple in the first game, and Dylan Irving (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Austin Jerylo (SO, Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) combined for a one-hit shutout in the second game, as the Augsburg University baseball team scored a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Lawrence University on Sunday evening at U.S. Bank Stadium.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Rogers hit a double to left in the first inning, then stroked a triple in the third inning, plating Timothy Lavin (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and Daniel Phyle (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Rosemount HS) in the third inning. 
• Jack Baumgart (SO, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS) lef off the fourth inning with a single, and eventually came around to score on a delayed double-steal attempt. 
• Daris Uditsky (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Family HS) started on the mound and allowed just one unearned run in four innings of work to claim the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. Mathew Nicklay (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) allowed just two hits in two innings of relief, and Kaden Gage (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
• Rogers had two hits in the first game, with Phyle, Baumgart, Lavin and Brayden Gray (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also getting base hits.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Starting pitcher Irving, who had two strikeouts against five walks in the first 1.2 innings, and reliever Jerylo combined for a one-hit shutout win in the second game. Jerylo didn't allow a hit until the top of the seventh inning, claiming six strikeouts against no walks. He retired 11 batters in a row between the third and sixth innings, and only allowed two baserunners in the game.
• Steven Salz (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) collected his first collegiate base hit, a run-scoring double plating Michael Weiss (FY, Marion, Ill./Linn-Mar HS), in the second inning, and Salz scored on an RBI groundout by Matt Krenz (SO, Becker, Minn./Becker HS).
• Augsburg sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on four hits and an error. Josh Tyler (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) hit a one-out single and scored on a triple by Phyle. Kyle Hoppe (JR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) drove home Phyle on a single, and a Weiss single plated Hoppe. 

FOR THE FOES 
• Mike Brady had two of Lawrence's eight hits in the doubleheader. Jacob Charon and Rudy Mueller-Schrader hit doubles for the Vikings.
• Preston Anderson pitched a complete-game effort in the first game, striking out two.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg traels to Tucson, Ariz., for a 10-game spring break trip starting on Saturday (3/14), when it faces Allegheny (Pa.) in the opening doubleheader.
