MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind a pair of goals from
Gavin Holland (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), the Augsburg University men's hockey team opened its abbreviated 2021 schedule with a 7-2 nonconference win over Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Claiming his fourth career multi-goal game, Holland fired a wrister from the left half-wall to give the Auggies a 2-0 lead at the 14:52 mark of the opening frame.
Austin Martinsen (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) had the first of his three assists in the game. Martinsen and
Erik Palmqvist (SO, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) assisted on Holland's second goal, a power-play marker 9:34 into the second period. Martinsen fed a point-blank pass to Holland from the left point to the right corner of the net, and Holland slammed the puck home.

Austin Koss (SO, Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS), who had a goal and two assists, opened the scoring at the 12:20 mark of the first period, collecting a loose puck in the slot and slamming it home.
Matt Nehls (SR, Boulder, Colo./D.C. West HS) assisted on the goal.
• Augsburg scored four goals in the third period to seal the victory, with two newcomers notching their first collegiate goals --
Tommy Carls (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Logan Kons (FY, Niles, Ill./Niles West HS). Carls scored 18 seconds into a power play, assisted by Martinsen and Palmqvist, and Kons notched his goal on the power play halfway through the frame, assisted by
Grant Reichenbacher (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS).

Charlie Parker (SR, Verona, Wis./Verona HS) scored his first goal of the season at the 11:25 mark of the third, finishing a 3-on-2 break from
Michael Redmon (SO, West Bloomfield, Mich./Centennial (Tenn.) HS) and Koss.

Jarod Blackowiak (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) capped the scoring in the final minute of play, on a goal assisted by Koss.

FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus scored a pair of goals in the second period to cut Augsburg's lead to 3-2. Nick Klischko scored a power-play goal from Toby Sengvongxay and Caleb Anderson at the 5:26 mark, and Dan Sandvig scored from Tyler Rock and Will LeNeave at the 19:25 mark.
• Robbie Goor had 23 saves in goal for the Gusties.
