MINNEAPOLIS -- Putting together 422 yards of total offense in a balanced attack, the Augsburg University football team claimed a 38-30 victory over Hamline University in the annual battle for "The Hammer" traveling trophy, a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Skyline Division game on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the second straight week, Augsburg had a 200-plus-yard rushing afternoon, with a season-high 217 rushing yards on 42 carries. Quarterback
Cade Sheehan (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) led the way with 89 yards on 13 carries, whileÂ
Tre Lee (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) rushed 10 times for 60 yards and a pair of third-quarter touchdowns, four yards and 10 yards.
DJ Monroe (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) rushed seven times for 23 yards in the fourth quarter, scoring his first collegiate touchdown on a one-yard rush in the fourth quarter, giving Augsburg a 38-16 lead.

Isaiah Thompson (SO, Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS) rushed 11 times for 47 yards before having to leave the game with an injury in the second half. But he provided one of the highlight plays of the Auggie season early in the game. After Hamline took the lead on a field goal following a 14-play, 4:50, game-opening drive, Thompson took the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown to give the Auggies the lead.

Michael Ims (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) in the first quarter and a 31-yarder toÂ
Dominic Smith (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) early in the fourth quarter.Â
• Five different Auggies caught passes in the game, led by
Braden Tretter (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS), who had eight receptions for 98 yards. Ims caught four passes for 32 yards, and Smith caught three passes for 53 yards.
• Trailing 16-14 at halftime, Augsburg scored touchdowns on four straight extended drives in the second half -- a 16-play, 69-yard, 5:48 drive, an eight-play, 69-yard, 3:33 drive, a six-play, 51-yard, 2:19 drive, and an 11-play, 58-yard, 5:51 drive. Augsburg outgained Hamline by a 422-to-388 total offense margin in the game.
• The Auggie defense forced Hamline to turn the ball over on downs twice in the game and blocked two kicks -- an extra point blocked by
Lionel Gates (JR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) in the first quarter and a field-goal attempt blocked by
Michael Harris III (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the second quarter.

Hamsa Kahin (FY, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) had 11 tackles (seven solo), a tackle for-loss and two pass breakups to lead the Auggie defense. Gates had seven tackles (five solo),
Dalton Miller (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had six tackles (three solo) and two pass breakups, and
Leban Kahin (FY, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) had six tackles (three solo), with a sack and two pass breakups.
FOR THE FOES
• Connor Leavens completed 25-of-45 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns, all to Triston Thomas, who caught 11 passes for 159 yards. The two hooked up on a 20-yard touchdown pass late in the first half, and connected for touchdown passes of 56 and 12 yards in the final three minutes of play.
• Alex Ralph rushed 14 times for 72 yards, and Terrell Jones rushed eight times for 30 yards and a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
• Zach Griebel had 12 tackles (eight solo) for the Pipers, and Ryan Kouri had seven tackles (two solo) and a second-quarter interception.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The win was the second straight for Augsburg over Hamline in the battle for "The Hammer" traveling trophy. Augsburg has won eight of the last 11 meetings between the two schools.
• Since "The Hammer" trophy game was established in 2005, Augsburg is now 12-4 in the teams' 16 meetings.
