MINNEAPOLIS – Despite outgaining the Oles 339-337 in total yards of offense on a snowy afternoon at Edor Nelson Field, the Augsburg University football team fell to St. Olaf 35-28 in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Week game on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Olaf came out hot in the first quarter, putting together an efficient drive lasting just over three minutes to take an early 7-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown pass. The Oles would score again in the first quarter on a 44-yard touchdown pass with just over five minutes remaining.
• The Auggies would get on the board early in the second quarter as
DJ Monroe (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) punched it in from two yards out to make it a one-score game. St. Olaf capitalized on an Augsburg fumble late in the second to score two touchdowns just 13 seconds apart and take a commanding 28-7 lead into the half.
• Quarterback
Cade Sheehan (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) connected with
Braden Tretter (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) in the second quarter for a nine-yard touchdown strike, cutting the deficit to 14 at the end of the third.
• Augsburg stormed back in the final quarter with Monroe finding the endzone one more time and Sheehan connecting with
Dominic Smith (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) for his 14
th touchdown catch of the season to tie the game at 28 with 8:06 remaining. St. Olaf put together a long drive culminating in a 14-yard touchdown pass that proved to be the game winner with 1:22 left in the game.
• Sheehan completed 19-of-28 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on the day while also adding in 98 yards on the ground. Tretter was the leading receiver for the Auggies as he hauled in six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown, also adding in a 51-yard punt return that set the Auggies up at the one-yard line. Smith was the second-leading receiver with five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.
• Monroe was the top Augsburg running back on the day as he finished with 12 carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns.
• Defensively,
Tramone Nevels (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) finished the game with an interception, a pass breakup, and 10 tackles (six solo) for the Auggies.
Shaquille Young (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Tartan HS) tallied two sacks and seven tackles (four solo).
FOR THE FOES
• Jordan Embry had a monster day on the ground, piling up 138 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries.
• Quarterback Theo Doran completed 14-of-29 passes for 166 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
• Ben Hestorff led the Oles with nine tackles (three solo).
