Auggie men fall at Saint John's

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Playing its first game in 19 days with a shorthanded lineup, the Augsburg University men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to host Saint John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Saint John's 4, Augsburg 2
LOCATION: Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, St. Cloud, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 4-1-0 overall (1-1-0 MIAC), Saint John's 4-2-0 overall (2-0-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both Augsburg and Saint John's were playing their first games in nearly three weeks, due to COVID testing protocols. In addition, Augsburg dressed just 15 skaters -- four fewer than the normal 19 skaters in a college hockey game. The Johnnies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 2:33 of play, before Augsburg was able to cut the lead to 2-1 after two periods. Saint John's scored 28 seconds into the final period, but Augsburg again trimmed the lead to 3-2 at the 8:52 mark. The Johnnies clinched the win with a goal with 4:37 left to play.
Logan Kons (FY, Niles, Ill./Niles West HS) scored his second goal of the season for the Auggies at the 8:37 mark of the second period, a power-play goal assisted by Grant Reichenbacher (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS) and Austin Koss (SO, Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS).
• Augsburg again cut the deficit to one goal at the 8:52 mark of the third period, as Reichenbacher scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Koss.
• Saint John's outshot Augsburg by a 35-29 margin. Daniil Gerasimov (SR, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) had 31 saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Jack Johnson scored two goals for Saint John's, while Henry Enebak and Auggie Moore each scored unassisted goals. Moore added two assists for a three-point night.
• Mac Berglove had 27 saves in goal for the Johnnies.
